Hi everybody, my name is Tessa. I'm a fourth-year Nutrition and Food Science student here at the University of Alberta. And I'm about to go to class so come follow me along for my day. I'm about to go to my sports nutrition class where we learn how to make athletes eat their best so that they can perform their best during sports and competitions. I'll see you after class. I just got out of class, I grabbed the coffee, and now I'm gonna go study with my friends.
As a nutrition student, I belong to the Agriculture Life and Environmental Science faculty. And I'm actually president of our Undergraduate Student Association. So today, I'm actually going to be meeting with one of my executive team members. We've been working on care packages to send out to students during final exam season. Right now we're going through how to best send them out for students so that they get them in time and after their exams. So today is actually the last day of classes. So I'm gonna go hang out with my friends at Dewey's, which is a local restaurant with some cool [food].
But while I have you here, I'm actually going to talk about something really cool that I've done with my degree, which is a Certificate in Sustainability. So basically, it's a project that allows you to do your own research that builds on the knowledge that you gain in your classes. So for my project, I looked at Honduras and basically how policy and agriculture influenced life and behaviors and overall nutrition. So that's it, I'm gonna go hang out with my friends.
So as part of my day, I'm also an Ambassador, so I get to do tours and represent the University. I'm also an Indigenous Ambassador so that means I get to lead tours for Indigenous communities. And another part of this is learning about all the unique histories and pieces of art that are on campus. And it makes me feel really connected to my community and really enriches my experience here.
So one of the last things I have for today is a shift at the Career Center. So I work as a Career Peer Educator, which basically means that I can help my fellow students find jobs, improve their resume, and improve their interviewing skills, and I really love being able to give back to my community in this way, and help my fellow students find work that fits their career aspirations. So I'm just gonna go ahead inside.
So that's the end of my day. Thanks for following along for a day in the life of a Nutrition student. One of the reasons why I love the University of Alberta is because there's so much room for growth, whether it's through your research or student groups or working on campus, there's always a place for you here. So I hope to see you around sometime!
