My name is Riley and I'm a fourth-year Industrial Design student at the University of Alberta. Today, we're going on a walk in my life as a student here, we're going to start off with a coffee at our Student Union Building. Let's go! I like to start my day here at the Daily Grind to get a local latte helps me get through a long day of classes. So let's get started.
Now we're here at the Industrial Design Workshop where everyone in my programs spends most of their time working on computer projects or furniture projects in the workshop here. I'm actually working on a small project myself right now so we can go check it out. So I'm actually working on one of my last furniture projects right now, where I've got this piece of wood here in this bath of resin. As soon as it's finished drying, I'm going to cut it up into some coasters using this machine over here.
So I've got a few hours before my big presentation here. So I'm heading into Rutherford South or the "Harry Potter Room" as it's called to study for a few hours. I like it here because it's nice and quiet keeps me from getting distracted by my friends.
Before we head off to the Industrial Design Building to see my presentation for the day, I wanted to stop in here at the Fine Arts Building to check out our grad show. This has everybody in my programs' current design work, and I've got some stuff upstairs myself. In my time here at Industrial Design, I've done a variety of projects. Stuff like furniture design, where I designed this chaise lounge chair here. Also made architectural models of famous buildings like the Frank Lloyd Wright house here, one of my favorites, for sure. And they've also done a lot of digital artwork as well, such as the renders on the side there. I do a lot of handmade art, and some of my best of it is in the gallery today. Thanks for checking out my pieces.
We're about to head over to the studio to start my presentation. So back to the studio here. I'm about to meet up with my team members to prep for our big presentation. We've been given the opportunity this year to work with some real architecture clients on redesigning a building here on campus. Even though I'm really nervous for this presentation, I'm also really excited because we put a lot of work in this year, and it'll be good to finally get to show it to them. After a long day, I'm glad that presentation is over. It really went well. I'm happy that it all worked out.
I love studying at the University of Alberta because I get to work in creative fields that I'm passionate about. Thanks for coming with me today. I hope to see you around!
