    Getting Involved

HOME TO MORE THAN 450 STUDENT CLUBS!

WOW (Week of Welcome) is where it all starts, it’s the best way to start off on the right foot and get involved.

It’s a week of orientations, concerts, and a clubs fair where you find people that share your passion, with groups like:

    • Anime
    • Bollywood dance
    • Hide and Seek
    • Powerlifting
    • Sci-Fi

Head to the Bears Den to find a full listing of student groups and clubs.

    GO GREEN AND GOLD

When we aren't cheering on our varsity teams to win another championship, you can find us seeking out events that are unique to our community, like:

    • Bar None Week
    • Campus Cup
    • AntiFreeze

Or join in the celebration of diversity with events like:

    • International Week
    • Pride Week
    • Round Dance and TAWOW

    INTRAMURAL SPORTS

You can stay active by joining an intramurals team.

They have everything from ice hockey to ultimate frisbee, and innertube water polo!

    VARSITY SPORTS

Catch a Golden Bears or Pandas game — students have free admission to all regular-season home games!

There are a lot of different places you can go to find how to get involved on campus. The clubs fair is a fantastic one. I remember when I first started, I walked through clubs fair on my first day, I personally got a little overwhelmed. There's a lot of different people, a lot of different groups. I went home later that day and scrolled through the entirety of Bears Den, the student group online registry. And that was a really great experience because I got to see all of the descriptors of everybody.

My advice for first year student getting involved would be try it out. There are so many diverse experiences at the U of A. There's so many different things you can do, from campus news to faculty associations, to cultural groups, to fraternities, and sororities to interest based groups. Walk into the room, meet the people and give it a try. If you love it, then you'll probably meet some fantastic friends. Having that trial and error is probably the best way to get involved at the university, because definitely I would describe the university experience as as challenging and a time for growth, where you come with a set of ideas of who you are and what you want to do. And if everything goes correctly, then those will be completely different by the time you're gone.
